Kiln Formed Glass / Slumped Glass
Kiln-formed glass, also known as slumped glass, is a captivating and versatile artistic technique that involves manipulating glass through the application of heat in a kiln.
Extreme heat softens the glass which takes on the shape of the moulded bed beneath it, creating intricate textures and designs. The controlled use of heat in the kiln enables Proto Glass Studios to create organic and natural or much more defined textures, depending on the desired effect. Whether bespoke or standard patterns, kiln formed glass gives a unique beauty, subtlety and tactile quality.
In house, we can kiln form pieces of glass up to 3m x 1.7m in various thicknesses which can also be toughened and/or laminated if required.
Proto Glass Studios have slumped glass for internal and external works worldwide that also include the addition of colour, mirror and etching. Projects have included kiln formed reception desks, office partitions, shower screens, outdoor sculptures and facades.
