The glass behind David & Richard is a multi-coloured ceramic screen printed design with acid etched texture.
The family business
Following the footsteps of his father, David Proto began his career in the glass industry in 1980, working in double glazing for P Proto Glass.
However, his methodical nature and flair for design led him into testing methods of how to apply and fire coloured ceramic frit onto glass, with silk screen printing becoming the favoured method. After years of testing and learning, Livermead Art Glass was set up as a subsidiary company in the late ‘80s to successfully serve glass artists across the UK.
Proto Glass Studios was then established in 2000 with years of knowledge and experience and has grown and adapted with the latest technologies to service clients in the UK and around the world.
Richard Proto, David’s son, joined the family business in 2012 and has learnt the ropes to continue the business.
“Richard’s input and influence has been invaluable to the business. He’s someone with whom I can bounce ideas, and he brings new life and ideas to the company. He has put great energy into keeping the business at the forefront of technological advances to enhance our offering and ensure that clients continue to be “wowed” by the end result. Plus, he makes me laugh every day.” - David Proto
