Dichroic Glass

Dichroic Glass Sculpture, Sammy Ofer Centre, London Business School

Dichroic glass is a mesmerising material that exhibits stunning color-shifting properties, appearing to change hues when viewed from different angles or under varying lighting conditions.

What is dichroic glass?

Originating from the Greek words "di" meaning two, and "chroma" meaning color, dichroic glass contains multiple micro-layers of metal oxides applied to its surface through a vacuum deposition process. This unique construction allows it to transmit and reflect different wavelengths of light simultaneously, resulting in a spectacular visual effect.

Dichroic glass suppliers

Whether used in small decorative pieces or large-scale architectural projects, Proto Glass Studios supply dichroic glass to the UK and beyond. Dichroic glass sheets are available in various thicknesses from 4mm-12mm and we process sheets up to 3.2m x 2.4m in size. We can supply to all shapes and sizes and can also manufacture it into a safety glass by offering it as toughened and/or laminated.

Dichroic glass is available either as a dip coating directly onto the glass surface or as a film permanently laminated between 2 pieces of glass. Its versatility extends to both internal and external applications in architectural designs and artistic creations. Dichroic glass seamlessly blends with other decorative glass techniques, enhancing its aesthetic appeal and allowing for endless design possibilities. Particularly striking when combined with textured glass, dichroic glass elevates visual impact by creating captivating interplays of light and color. Whether it’s Dichroic stained glass windows or an architectural installation, dichroic brings a contemporary and dynamic element to interior and exterior spaces, capturing attention with their iridescent brilliance.
