Coventry Cross Decorative Glass

Coventry Cross, Coventry, UK

glass design by Martin Donlin - glass artist

The 57ft (17.42m) high Coventry Cross is the latest incarnation of a 16th Century sculpture rebuilt in Broadgate, closer to its original location near Holy Trinity Church.

This time however, it now houses a statue of King Henry VI and new stained glass windows commissioned by Coventry Council.

Coventry Cross. Screen printed ceramic enamels and gold leaf.

New project in Coventry city center, a replica of the16th century monument with new stained glass and a statue of King Henry VI.

The glass tells the history of the medieval market cross and King Henry VI.
Glass Specification:
Each panel is made from 25.5mm laminated and toughened glass with a permanent screen-printed black and etched ceramic print. The glass is encased by a seemless stainless steel rounded capping and glazed into a bespoke underground bolted metal channel. The glass was calculated for specific wind loading and meets all CE standards.

Techniques used:
screenprinted ceramic frit provides a permanent print that will not scratch off or fade externally when exposed to UV light.

Proto Glass Studios offered the works as a complete package which included sampling, structural calculations, manufacture, testing and installation. This meant that Proto Glass Studios took full responsibility for peace of mind and assurance.

Enormous thanks to Proto Glass Studios for manufacturing and installing the glass. What a result!
